Meet the Artist

Taanishi Caterina dishinikaashoon (She/Her/They). Hello, my name is Caterina, and I am the artist behind Northern Lights Creations. I am a proud mixed woman - Métis, Italian, French settler living in Northern Ontario. Despite being part of a long lineage of fur traders from Quebec, I was not raised in my culture; however, I'm learning.

I am a mother, beader, forever student, and advocate. It is very important to me that, through this journey, I support Indigenous causes and serve my community, so I began volunteering. Through my business, I am able to raise money for different organizations. I give away moose hide campaign pins and work closely with Moon Time Connections Ontario. I host yearly drives to collect Moon Time products to send to remote Indigenous communities, and in 2024, I completed the Moon Time facilitator training. I work towards removing the stigma of Moon Time by starting uncomfortable conversations and facilitating Moon Time 101 presentations to youth and adults in our community.

Northern Lights Creations name is registered in Canada. My style of beadwork reflects a more traditional yet modern/urban perspective. I hope to spread good medicine, love, confidence, and kindness all across Turtle Island. ❤️
